The University of Texas has entered a campaign to measure the independent and cumulative fission yields for short-lived fission products using gamma spectrometry and inverse problem solving/mathematical optimization. Currently, numerical ODE integrators and simplex optimization algorithms are being applied to a maximum likelihood estimation framework. Future work includes solving the optimization problem using Newton's method to assess the results' sensitivity to the solution technique, uncertainty estimation using Monte Carlo and numerical estimations of the system's Jacobian, and a Bayesian framework that will incorporate the current nuclear data as prior distributions for the studied fission yields.
