Inorganic additives are capable of bringing considerable improvements to the properties of polymers, in particular polar polymers. The effects are new in that they are the result of a specific physico-chemical interaction between the polymer and the powder particles, made possible by the fineness and purity of the powder; in this respect the mechanisms are very different to those of conventional fillers. In this presentation details have been given of the effects of the simple products which have been prepared by the Propension technology. Further work is being carried out on new formulations, mixed carbides and nitrides which are still easily accessible by the Propension technology, at a cost which is quite compatible with the requirements of the market, taking into account the notable property performances obtained.
