The knee models are useful to assist knee study and surgical operation. The methods used to describe the knee are two kinds: one is Differential-Algebraic Equations(DAE), the other is finite elements. The most models described by DAE are 2-D dynamic models because the complex equations that 3-D models need could not be solved before 1990's. In 1990's, solvers for DAE were developed and 3-D models were presented. The most models described by finite elements are 3-D. They are static or quasi-static models based on CT(computer tomography) or MRI(magnetic resonant images) images. And they are precise in geometry.
