This paper expounds strongpoint and basic theory of sound intensity measurement and machine noise source identification by the method of sound intensity. This paper gives two examples using machine noise source identification. One is in noise control. This paper discusses the measurement method and steps of running noise of traveling crane. Find out main running noise of stacker by machine noise source identification. It offers basis for reducing noise. The other is function in fault diagnosis. When machines have fault, noise character can change. Fault diagnosis can be carried out by noise source identification. Especially when sensors cannot be installed in machine, this method has its advantage. This paper gives an example of noise diagnosis of gearbox.
