In the vibrating and impacting experiments, the tested instant impulse signal probably produces oscillation. Only by the digital signal processing (DSP) can the experimenters get the satisfying result. The digital filter of the superior performance can get rid of the affect from the DSP and help the experimenters find the existing imperfection in the test. In this paper, a new application of genetic algorithm (GA) in digital filter design with the criterion of least mean square (LMS) error is presented. According to the desired frequency response, the filter coefficients can be obtained by the GA. Some necessary improvement is made for the standard GA so that the algorithm can converge rapidly. The paper gives an example of the filter design. Simulation shows that the GA is feasible in the filter design.
