With the growth of automobile traffic and the increase of wheel load and the tire unit pressure, still higher demand on the pavement performance has been put forward. Under the effect of the heavy traffic and climate, the traditional asphalt concrete (AC) pavement can easily suffer diseases, such as rut, crack, stripping and pit. The crushed stones mastic asphalt (SMA) pavement is more excellent than the traditional AC pavement in many respects, such as rut-resisting under high temperature, crack-resisting under low temperature, water-resistance, weather resistance and so on. This paper centers on the introduction of SMA pavement performance, materials choice, mixture proportioning and the characteristics of construction technology.
