A pryometallurgical process, using Cu_2O-based slag treatment, was proposed as a recycling process for copper scrap and its feasibility was confirmed. In this process, the major component of the slag formed during the process is Cu_2O, and therefore the recovery of copper from the Cu_2O-based slag is very important. In the present work, two recovery methods were studied. Firstly, a reduction method to produce black copper was used and secondly a sulfurization method was employed to produce matte. The copper produced by the reduction method had a high enough purity to be returned directly to the pyrometallurgical rcycling process.
