Optimal combining technique is investigated forrnmultipath Rayleigh fading channel with additive white Gaussianrnnoise where only imperfect channel knowledge is available at thernreceiver. It is shown that one might consider the channel gainrnas decomposed into a channel estimate based on the imperfectrnchannel knowledge and a non-observable estimation error. Thernoptimal combining weight is derived taking into consideration thernimperfect knowledge. The bit error performance using optimalrncombining is derived and compared with the case of perfectrnchannel knowledge. Numerical results are presented for specificrnchannel and estimation model to illustrate the performancernanalysis with the combined effect of channel estimation andrndetection errors.
