Developing Superior Ergonomic Solutions Through Application of a Comprehensive Approach to Problem Solving

Ergonomic Problem solving is often unsuccessful due to a failure of the methodology of approach. Technology, research & development and a consultative, interactive and hands on approach are essential ingredients if the methodology is to succeed. The use of practical problem solving tools such as full scale proto-typing are critical in closing the gap between theoretical research and the real solutions for the end user regardless of whether or not the ergonomic problem is work related. The methodology of a structured approach to problem solving developed over the last 6 years in consultancy is explained. The paper also presents the results of research and development / problem solving projects in the timber industry, private hospital sector and banking sector.
