Following the use of transmission sprockets machined on our 4-axis horizontal spindle machining centre, we realised that the machined parts presented a significant circularity defect that came from the machining trajectories. After having highlighted the problem, we carried out several experiments to characterise the machine, i.e. to determine the different causes of trajectory deviance. Two types of tests have been done: machine without and under machining stresses. Then, we have proposed and used defect correction or compensation procedures. Finally, we have machined a new series of transmission sprockets that makes it possible to validate the proposed correction method.
