The single most important conclusion of the study is that the Prairie Grass field experiments and laboratory experiments from three different wind tunnels showed that the short-range vertical dispersion of a passive contaminant in a neutrally-stratified turbulent boundary layer can be usefully characterized by a vertical entrainment coefficient of α= 0.65+- 0.05. The theoretical analyses give values of a in the range from about 0.4 to 1.6, with the median value of about 0.5 to 0.7. These values approximately agree with the observations reported above, but we would be more comfortable with the result if there were a theoretical derivation that was agreed-upon by the research community.
