Among the factors that affect climate, the radiative forcing of aerosols is recognized as being particularly important especially as anthropogenic emissions of aerosols increase. Although aerosols are known to absorb and scatter radiation and modify cloud optical properties, the interaction between aerosols and climate is a still a large source of uncertainty in understanding the climate system and climate change. Part of this uncertainty, in turn, is because aerosols typically demonstrate large spatial and temporal variability yet this variability has not been well documented. This research evaluates seasonal, interannual, and spatial variability of aerosols over Germany.
