Response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to optimize hydrothermal pretreatmentrnconditions for glucose and xylose recovery from poppy stalk, with respect to temperature (120-200℃), solid to liquidrnratio (0.05-0.20) and pretreatment time (5-60 min). While experimental maximum glucose recovery of 628.20 mgrnglucose/g initial cellulose was achieved at condition of 200 ℃, 0.200 g/ml of solid to liquid ratio and 32.5 min,rnmaximum experimental xylose recovery (130.12 mg/g initial xylose) was at the conditions of 160 ℃, 0.125 g/ml ofrnsolid to liquid ratio and 32.5 min.
