THE IMPORTANCE OF THERMAL MANAGEMENT IN THE WELDING OF HIGH STRENGTH ALUMINIUM ALLOYS

Practice for the manufacture, fabrication and environmental protection of aluminium armour is discussed, and current work on reduction of liquation cracking during welding is presented. The results of this work show that 6082 and 7019 alternative armour alloys can be welded with considerably reduced liquation. The use of alternative filler alloys and reduction of welding heat input offer further benefits in reducing liquation.
