A search through history of the evolution of manufacturing process reveals that the heat treatment of metal has always been considered to play a very important part. However, it was never recognized as a part of the integrated manufacturing process. For various reasons many attempts to integrate the heat treatment process into the production line was not successful. The obvious question is, therefore, what criteria should the heat treatment process and the design meet to be eligible to be integrated into the production line.
