A Correlation for Airflow Rate of Inclined and Vertical Solar Chimneys

The present work uses the results of a CFD model for a wide range of data points to develop a comprehensive correlation for dimensionless airflow rate of solar chimneys. The independent variables in this correlation include height of the chimney (normalized by the chimney depth), absorbing wall temperature and outdoor temperatures (normalized by indoor temperature) and slope of the chimney. This correlation is based on a large number of data produced for chimney angles as low as 30 degrees and as high as vertical chimney, resembling Trombe wall. Details of the CFD model implemented to obtain the data points and curve fitting analysis are presented in this paper. The usefulness of the correlation in evaluating performance of wide range solar chimneys is further discussed.
