Karst aquifers are highly heterogeneous and anisotropic, and typically feature a complex, geographically variable permeability structure that includes caves, conduits, fissures and matrix porosity, which makes them behave very differently from other aquifers.Slow seepage through the rock matrix and fast flow through karst conduits and fractures result in a dramatic variation in hydrological and physiochemical response of springs to rainfall events(Ghasemizadeh et al.2012).
